Howdy! Hola! Hello!

I’m Jayme – an illustrator, designer and artist in Texas inspired by color, crafts & kitsch, always aiming to preserve the magic of youthful curiosity. Good to meet ya!

These days half of my time is dedicated to being in the studio, and the other half is palling around with my two little girls with old lady names. We currently live in San Antonio, partly so that we can teach our girls about their Latin heritage and have them surrounded by the vibrant, rich and loving TexMex culture I was raised with. I’m a mixed-media artist, working primarily with gouache, color pencil, watercolor, collage and wool. Being that my background is in art direction and graphic design, I do enjoy creating digitally from time to time too.

Writing and illustrating picture books is my passion and I recently received the top portfolio award at our local SCBWI Fall Mini-Conference which brought me so much joy. And I’ve recently signed on with Janine Le Literary Agency to pursue my lifetime goal of working in children’s literature.

For commercial work, favorite clients have a sense of humor (Poo~Pourri) and/or a do-gooder philosophy (FEED Projects) and I feel thankful when I find clients who dip their toes in both (Wildflower Caramels and the San Antonio Museum of Art to name a few). Due to my ad agency background I have experience working face-to-face with clients great and small, organizing my time and seeing a project from concept to life. I’ve been freelancing for 10 years but in the biz for over 15 and love the diversity of work I receive.

You can find me between San Antonio and Dallas, working in my studio or near any warm, sunny window I can find.
